Our Story
We’ve known each other since middle school — two Rhode Island girls who grew up side by side, stayed close through the years, and always had a creative spark. After high school, we followed different paths: Jillian headed to Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach to study public relations and marketing, while Sommer studied marketing, public relations, and entrepreneurship — beginning in Tampa and finishing at the University of Rhode Island.
Even with different experiences, our shared passion for branding and storytelling never left the conversation. As we caught up after college, we found ourselves constantly talking about the marketing world — swapping stories about our day-to-day, big ideas, and long-term goals. It didn’t take long to realize that we not only had a lot in common, but also shared the same drive and ambition to make a real impact in the industry.
We teamed up on a project and quickly realized how naturally we worked together. We each brought different strengths to the table, filling in the gaps and complementing one another in the best way. It just fit — and that’s how Design by Sommer Co. was born.
Jillian brought experience in fashion and retail, nonprofits, hospitality, boating, and education. Sommer brought a background in healthcare, sustainability, insurance, radio and news, architecture, and creative content for brands like NBC’s Studio 10. Together, we’re the perfect balance of strategy and style — helping brands find their voice, elevate their visuals, and grow with confidence.
